Here is a famous provocative song by one of France’s greatest pre-war singers, Suzy Solidor, about a woman’s love for women, chosen to illustrate the atmosphere of the legendary Parisian cabaret Chez Moune, Paris’ first lesbian cabaret in the 1930s.
Madame Moune created her cabaret in 1936 and it was one of the first nightclubs where jazz was introduced, along with traditional cabaret numbers.
Her regulars were Edith Piaf, Suzy Solidor herself, or later Nicoletta, and many others.
This cabaret has lasted 73 years as such and is still open, although to a different audience.
